The WPT brand is synonymous with top-tier live events, including the WPT World Championship in Las Vegas. While WPT Global is an online poker room, it’s the same brand, and you can still qualify for in-person events.

In real terms, this means you’ll be competing against more than 5,000 novices at peak times, along with a few seasoned players.

Before we get stuck into this WPT Global review, it’s worth noting that WPT Global is not the same as ClubWPT or ClubWPT Gold. These cater to slightly different markets, while WPT Global can be played in more than 135 countries.

This penchant for multi-table entertainment is evident in the weekly WPT Global tournament schedule. Freerolls are flanked by real-money MTTs with buy-ins ranging from $1 to $500.

Most of the best MTTs are priced around $5, which aligns with WPT Global’s desire to give recreational players more value. The only criticism we have is that there are too many turbo events.

We understand that poker is a business, and operators need a high tournament turnover if buy-ins are low. But it would be nice if there were a few more deepstack MTTs with slow clocks and small buy-ins.

WPT Global’s Weekly Major

The main WPT online poker tournament of the week costs $25 to enter and takes place every Sunday. Weekly majors typically cost over $100 to enter, so WPT Global’s Golden Bounty Championship got our attention.

It’s a phased event, which means you can play one or more of the starting flights taking place throughout the week. Those who make it through a starting flight get to compete in Sunday’s finale.

The $250,000 guarantee compares well to weekly majors at the top offshore poker sites, including BetOnline’s $100,000 Sunday Showdown. Another unique and potentially profitable twist is that you can win bounties during the starting flights.

WPT Global Cash Games

There are plenty of Hold’em and Omaha cash games at WPT Global. There isn’t much action above $3/$6, but the games are vibrant at lower stakes. By vibrant, we mean there’s plenty of action from loose players who aren’t always as skilled as they think they are.

Five-Card Omaha is fun, but there aren’t many games running throughout the day. You’ll find the odd game at night, but this isn’t enough to keep serious Omaha players happy.

Finally, if you’re willing to play in Chinese Yuan, there are Short Deck (6+ Hold’em) cash games. Again, the action is concentrated at lower stakes, but there are certainly some soft spots from what I’ve seen.

Global Spins

Global Spins are the WPT’s take on Jackpot Sit & Go (SNG) tournaments. These games cost between $1 and $250, which is a wider spread of buy-ins than you’ll find at many of the best poker sites online.

The SNGs are fairly standard in the sense that they’re three-handed, winner-takes-all tournaments with a hyper-turbo blind structure. What sets these events apart from other Jackpot SNGs is their jackpots.

The maximum random prize multiplier is worth 6,000x the buy-in. This means prizes can reach a heady $1.5 million at the top stakes. The only poker site we’ve used with similar payouts is ACR.

Unique Events at WPT Global

There aren’t many poker sites that can match WPT Global in terms of satellite offerings, since it’s linked to an organization that runs dozens of major live events every year.

This means you’ve got a direct route into some of the biggest live poker tournaments in the world, including the WPT World Championship.

How to Claim WPT Global Rakeback

Earlier in this WPT Global review, we said that the promo team takes a creative approach to added value. Rakeback is no different.

There are pros and cons to this. The major downside is that there isn’t a formal rakeback system. Other poker sites offer a set amount of rakeback based on the amount of rake you generate over the course of a week.

WPT Global doesn’t do that. Instead, rakeback is sporadic. But when you get it, the returns are very generous. While this won’t suit high-volume grinders, it’s the ideal option for casual players.

As we’ve said throughout this WPT Global Poker review, recreational players will get more from this app than pros. That’s not to say you can’t extract a decent amount of value from the ecosystem if you’re a serious player.

The WPT Global app design is light and bright, with a slightly cartoonish quality that keeps things engaging. This does make it resource-intensive and slightly slower than other poker apps, especially when multi-tabling.

Although the software needs refining, WPT Global not only has more features than many of its peers, it has unique elements that we’ve not seen anywhere else.

FairGame

This AI-powered feature assesses the skill level of players at cash game tables. It does this in the background so that it can limit the number of pros in a game. Currently, there can only be two pro-level players at a cash game table.

In theory, this gives recreational players a better chance of winning, or at the very least, it limits their exposure to opponents who might be more skilled.

AceGuardian

A data-driven AI algorithm monitors the WPT Global poker app at all times. If AceGuardian spots patterns of play that suggest collusion or cheating (such as using a bot), it gets flagged and investigated immediately.

Inbuilt Restrictions

You can’t use poker tracking software or HUDs at WPT Global. This means you can’t get real-time statistics. That’s a negative in one regard because it takes away data that some online poker players rely on.

The positive is that opponents can’t get real-time data on how you play. So, if you’re someone who prefers to get reads by observing a player’s betting patterns, the WPT Global app is ideal.

Multi-Tabling

You can play up to four cash game tables simultaneously and seven tournaments. That’s more than enough tables for me and the majority of recreational players, but it might be too limiting for serious grinders.

Rabbit Hunt

Inspired by live cash games, this feature allows you to see the river card if everyone folds.

Insurance

You can insure cash game hands when you’re all-in. You can either take the equity of your hand or your share of the pot. There’s a 5% commission charge for taking insurance.

WPT Global Poker App

Use our WPT Global download link via an iOS or Android device, and you’ll be able to install a native app. This app takes the place of an instant-play mobile site, which we see as a positive.

Although mobile sites are better than they used to be, apps are more stable, secure, and they’re easier to use. That’s certainly the case for WPT’s mobile app.

You get access to a full selection of games, payment options, and WPT Poker bonus code offers. We also like the vertical orientation of poker tables, but it would be nice if you could play more than three games at once.

There’s a lot to like about the WPT’s online poker site. The fact that it’s designed for recreational players is not only good for those who are new to the game, but the poker economy as a whole.

Catering more for novices does come at the expense of seasoned players in some regards. But not so much that I wouldn’t recommend WPT Global to mid-stakes players looking for a new opportunity.

I started this WPT Global review by asking if the app upholds the World Poker Tour’s reputation for excellence. In my opinion, it does. It’s not perfect, but it has some truly unique features and some of the best poker tournaments for aspiring amateurs.
