Last Year's Champion Lou Esposito Shares Chip Lead After Day 1

The $5,000 World Series of Poker Circuit event at Harrah’s New Orleans began Monday with 249 entrants, who built a prize pool of $1,196,650. The winner of the event will receive $382,928, a gold ring, and an entry into this year’s WSOP main event, which is right around the corner.

Play went until there were 69 players left last night. Two players share the lead going into day 2 today; both David Fox and last year’s New Orleans champion Lou Esposito have 102,100 in chips.

Although a handful of tournament regulars, such as Bill Edler, Josh Arieh, and T.J. Cloutier, showed up in New Orleans to play, few are left. The honorary MC of the event, famed New Orleans chef Paul Prudhomme, is still in the event. He has 9,600 in chips.

Today, players will play down until there are only nine left. The tournament will end tomorrow.
