The first iteration of the CoinPoker pot-limit Omaha Cash Game Championship is played at two different stakes. Players can take part in the competition at either the $2.50-$5 blind level or $10-$20 stakes.
However, it appears that most of the leaders are playing high-stakes games.
CoinPoker released a highlight video from the contest’s recent action. Koray Turker and Tom Vogelsang did commentary for some of the biggest pots from the $10-$20 games, and many of the screen names seen in the video could also be seen at the top of the leaderboard.
Cash Game Championship Leader Picks Off A Bluff
An unknown grinder under the screen name ‘godfromstock’ currently sits atop the leaderboard. In one of the hands featured on the recap, godfromstock won a huge pot by correctly bluff-catching against ‘GMEAMCBBBY.’
In a five-handed game, godfromstock raised from under-the-gun, GMEAMCBBBY called on the button and ‘CanarianSPA’ defended his big blind.
The flop was 9♣8♦2♦ and CanarianSPA checked. godfromstock bet $118.32 into a pot of $236.65. GMEAMCBBBY called and CanarianSPA folded.
The turn was the 3♣ and godfromstock bet again, this time for full pot of $473.29. But Turker and Vogelsang debated whether or not to bet the turn.
“I think I would check,” said Vogelsang.
“You’re scared of 9-8 finding a turn raise?” asked Turker.
“This is one aspect we really disagree on so far,” said Vogelsang. “I’m scared because it’s [stack-to-pot ratio] of 8 and there’s not that many good rivers.”
“I want to juice it against all the different flush draws that have to call the turn though on this board,” said Turker.
“You’re juicing it, but there’s not really that many good rivers,” said Vogelsang. “So how bad do you want to juice it? I know what you’re doing. I like the positivity. but you don’t play too much anymore, so you think the flush is going to come.”
godfromstock agreed with Turker and went with a large sizing. GMEAMCBBBY called. The river was the J♠ and godfromstock checked. GMEAMCBBBY bet $1,064.90 and godfromstock called.
godfromstock won the pot with A♦10♥9♦2♥ and won against GMEAMCBBBY’s 7♦5♣5♥3♦.
Other Leaders Abound
Aside from the current leader, there were plenty of top names in the $10-$20 games. High-stakes online poker veteran Dirk Gerritse, who goes by ‘venividi1993’ online was seen a couple times in the highlights. Despite the highlight reel appearance, Gerritse fell from second to eighth this week.
‘ZaGeZ’ is now in second and ‘venom2’ is in third. ‘cumicon’ slid one spot from his position earlier in the week, falling from third to fourth. While none of the three had their hands as the focal point of commentary, they were visible at the high-stakes tables.
ZaGeZ and venom2 are the two biggest winners in the competition with $116,920 and $109,350 in winnings, respectively. However, godfromstock has more points than they do.
Leaderboard points are awarded based on the expected value of big blinds won. Thus, the competition removes some of the variance of the action-packed game. Games are six-max PLO with 100-big blind buy-ins and the winner of every pot has their cards shown regardless of street.
Every EV BB at $500 PLO is worth 1 leaderboard point. Whereas 1 EV BB at $2,000 PLO is worth 2.5 leaderboard points. The competition runs through Nov. 2.
