Sweepstakes poker site ClubWPT Gold announced Thursday that the platform is leaving Nevada. Players in the Silver State can no longer purchase coins on the site and sweepstakes play will be unavailable beginning Sept. 28.
Users have until Oct. 2 to empty accounts. ClubWPT encouraged subscribers to cancel their memberships. However, the company hinted at an eventual return to the market.
“In response to shifts in the regulatory environment, ClubWPT Gold will be pausing sweepstakes gameplay in Nevada,” the company said. “We are optimistic that with product modifications, we can resume offering sweepstakes gameplay in the future. “
Exit Follows Business Model Change
The news comes after the company made significant changes to the site’s business model in September 2025. That included scrapping free-to-play games and Gold Coins. Instead, players purchased poker training credits to play and redeem winnings for prizes.
The site took the angle of becoming a training site to fall within the law, even in states where sweepstakes gaming was being banned. California was one of those. ClubWPT Gold continues to operate there. So far, Nevada appears to be the first state the poker site has left since making that change.
Some legal experts have argued that despite the new business model, the site could still be breaking California laws.
In June, the company launched a new marketing campaign on digital billboards along the Las Vegas Strip as the World Series of Poker was playing out. The company hasn’t officially spelled out what the exact regulatory changes were that resulted in them leaving the market.
Online Poker Options Narrowed In Several States
Nevada is part of the country’s Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement, with WSOP Online offering real-money online poker, pooled with players in New Jersey, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Other operators have yet to enter the Nevada market, although BetMGM has hinted at an eventual launch.
Global Poker, another leading sweepstakes poker site, bars players from Nevada and 14 other states, including California.
Clubs Poker also prohibits players from Nevada and nine other states.
The crackdown on sweepstakes gaming leaves many players without an online poker option beyond using an offshore operator.
