Missouri Voters to Take Up Casino 'Loss Limit' Issue

Referendum Will Be Placed on November's Ballot

Missouri voters will decide if the state’s unique “loss limit” rule that stops casino patrons from buying in for more than $500 in two hours should be lifted.

According to the supporters of the measure, the change would receive an additional $105.1 million-$130.0 million annually for elementary and secondary education, and $5 million-$7 million annually for higher education, early childhood development, veterans, and other programs.

Local governmental entities receiving gambling boat tax and fee revenues will receive an estimated $18.1 million-$19 million annually.

If passed, the vote would prevent any other form of “loss limit” from being implemented and would end the existing rule there.

The referendum was put on the ballot after supporters collected enough signatures through a petition drive earlier this year. Election Day is Nov. 4.
