Oral arguments in the case where iMEGA, the non-profit organization, is attempting to have the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) declared unconstitutional were heard in New Jersey today.
Judge Mary Cooper heard lawyers representing both iMEGA and the U.S. Department of Justice argue whether a temporary retraining order (TRO) that would stop the UIGEA from being enforced should be made.
Cooper listened to both sides before telling the parties that, because of the complexity of the case, she's unable to make a ruling at this time. She said she would look at all the issues concerning the case and rule in the following weeks. The lawyer representing the U.S. government asked for the case to be dismissed.
Several wings of the U.S. government are being sued by iMEGA in an attempt to have the UIGEA voided. This is one of the first steps in the case.
