EPT San Remo
The European Poker Tour San Remo stop has been going full force for the past week, with 17 events completed and six more still in action. The crowning jewel of this series was the €4,600 main event, which drew 837 players, building a massive €3.7 million dollar prize pool.
After a weeks worth of play, 837 was narrowed down to one man, Russian Andrey Pateychuk, who took home €680,000 and 1920 POY points. With the 180 POY points he earned for finishing 15th in the WSOP Main Event, Pateychuk will move into 53rd position in the overall POY standings. Other notables who made deep runs include ninth place finisher Johnny Lodden (€45,000), 15th place finisher Lex Veldhuis (€22,000), and recent WSOP Europe main event champion Elio Fox who finished 23rd (€19,000).
WSOP Circuit Hammond
Stateside, the 2011 World Series of Poker Circuit stop in Hammond, Indiana also drew huge fields for many of its events. The first event of 12 in the series, a $350 no-limit hold’em re-entry, drew an incredible 3001 entries. This built a prize pool of $873,291 and a first prize of $124,438, which is remarkably large for such a low buy-in.
The $1,500 main event was also re-entry, allowing busted players to buy-in again on subsequent starting days. When all was said and done the tournament drew 1,615 entries and built a nearly $2.4 million prize pool. After four days of play, it was 51-year-old Robert Chow who came out on top, earning $393,584. In addition to the first-place prize, Chow earned a gold WSOP Circuit ring, entry into the $1 million National Championship in Las Vegas, and 1200 POY points.
Chow defeated Indiana native and 2011 WSOP bracelet winner Aaron Steury heads-up for the title. Stuery took home $243,818 and 1000 POY points for his runner-up finish, moving him into 60th place on the overall standings with $537,376 in POY qualified earnings this year.
Borgata $300k Guaranteed Deep Stack
The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City played host to a $1,500 buy-in no-limit hold’em event with a guaranteed prize pool of $300,000 last week, and surpassed that guarantee by $52,500 by attracting 235 entrants. The last man standing was Matt Glantz, and for the win he was awarded $95,742 and 576 POY points.
Isle Open Main Event
Pompano Beach, Florida’s Isle Casino hosted the 2011 Isle Open $2,200 main event that began on Octobter 21st. The tournament brought out 232 players, building a $464,000 prize pool and a $100,000 first prize, which was eventually won by Florida native Kevin Deng. Deng was also awarded 552 POY points. Notable pro David Paredes finished third for $51,040.
Looking Ahead
There are a number of places to play for POY points in the coming week. The 2011 Isle Open continues with its $10,000 Jack’s High event beginning on October 28th.
The largest event coming up is the $10,000 WPT Foxwoods World Poker Finals main event, which has just gotten underway in Mashantucket, Connecticut. Last year’s main event drew 242 players and awarded a first prize of $548,752 to eventual champion Jeff Forest. In addition to the main event, the 2011 World Poker Finals is also hosting 27 other events with buy-ins ranging from $350 to $5,000.
