The group stage of the competition ran several heads-up matches in both formats from April 6-19. Then, one player from each group emerged victorious and advanced to the semi-finals. Fans could watch some of online poker’s best players clash on CoinPoker’s YouTube streams.

Now that the group stage is completed, four players in each discipline remain. By defeating their next opponent, they will play for the title.

CoinPoker Announces Challenger Edition

With the kick off of the semi-finals, the CoinPoker team also announced a new competition that brings the action to a lower price point.

The Heads-Up Cash Game World Championship features a $10,000 buy-in at $50-$100 stakes. But this summer, CoinPoker’s Heads-Up Cash Game World Championship Challenger Edition brings the same competition the smaller stakes.

The upcoming series runs from June 1- July 5 and will feature both no-limit hold’em and pot-limit Omaha action at stakes of $0.10-$0.25 and $1-$2 stakes. All four formats run simultaneously and players are allowed to enter multiple events.

Unlike the high-stakes competition, the Challenger Edition will rank players based on total winnings over the hands played in each stage of the event.

The series leaderboard has a total of $50,000 in prizes on the line. Here’s a look at this summer’s schedule.

  • Opening Stage (June 1-14) – Hands within the first 2,500 count towards the leaderboard
  • Quarter-Finals (June 15-21) – Fixed limit of 1,000 hands
  • Semi-Finals (June 22-28) – Fixed limit of 1,000 hands
  • Grand Finals (June 29-July 5) – Fixed limit of 1,500 hands
