The winner of the event, TheV0id, would have received $1.2 million for being the last man standing in the tournament, but his disqualification means that every other player in the event will move up one spot in the payout structure (and the two-way deal at the final table is nullified).

The bubble boy in the event, alkemizt, who previously finished in 415th place, will now find $2,998 in his account, an unexpected, but undoubtedly welcome, surprise.
The PokerStars security team began investigating TheV0id's win immediately, and yesterday they announced the results of the investigation:
The investigation into the WCOOP main event has now been concluded.
We have determined, based on the totality of evidence, that the tournament winner "TheV0id" was in breach of the PokerStars Terms of Service.
In the interests of game integrity, "TheV0id" has been disqualified from first place.
All other WCOOP main event prize-winners, in addition to the player who originally bubbled in 415th place, will therefore advance one place in the prize pool. The necessary financial adjustments to reflect the revised tournament places will be made within the next 24 hours.
Please note that we are unable to release further details of this investigation, for reasons of confidentiality and privacy.

The new results will also affect both of Card Player's prominent poker leader boards. Because the tournament was so large and influential, the winners were given points toward the Card Player Player of the Year (POY) standings along with the Online Player of the Year (OPOY) points they would have normally received. Ka$ino will now receive 1,800 POY points and 2,400 OPOY points (rather than 1,500 and 2,000, respectively). Vanessa "LadyMaverick" Rousso will be awarded 1,500 POY points and 2,000 OPOY points for second place (rather than 1,200 and 1,600, respectively, for third place).

I wish I was wrong about this, but just to add a little fuel to the fire, did anyone see the following article today: 'Possible Absolute Poker Security Breach Investigated' sad but I think a lot of this stuff is going to be coming out in the next few months. It's a shame too, but with stories like this and real money at stake, the whole online environment better take quick decisive actions to convince people that it's safe. Otherwise we'll be back to only folks close to brick & mortar casino's (or the occassional Vegas trip) will be able to play poker...... guess we'll have to wait and see.....

This stuff needs to be regulated in the US. Full Tilt shut down my account because someone else had a "charge back" and I used their computer before to log in. I have NO ONE to go to for assitance. They can and will continue to bully me!

With situations like this where we have NO idea what happened . . . how can we trust these sites? So they disqualify someone for $1m and tell us NOTHING? I sure won't risk any funds of any significance following this incident.

littlecurious, pokerstars updates their software like once a week. theres always something new, whether it's different fonts, an auto rebuy button, or resizable windows, there's always something being updated. I just wish they would fix the problem of avatars not showing up.

..if that's the case, then let me ask you this, even if you were able to secretly setup X accounts (10,20,etc), configure several static IP's, different machines, whatever was required, the bottom line still remains that you have X number of entries at $2500 each (whether via satellites or purchase outright) does that give you enough of an advantage that you would risk $25,000 (10 entries), $50,000(20 entries) on the one tourney with 2500 + players..... the roi doesn't pan out mathematically.... i still say there's something else going on here.... plus just physically being able to play that many tables simultaneously isn't possible.... so was he using software to automate play or something.... it just doesn't smell right....

just saw the last few posts and catching up now. to be honest, i did not watch the final table action so not familiar with how he played his cards, i was saying it's very coincidental all this happens with the release of a new version that has what i believe to be frivolous updates. With that being said, from the other posts' i'm gathering that the only reason this person was disq'd was because he was playing with multiple accounts during the one tourney? Is that what is being said here is the reason for the disqualification......

In response to littlecurious... If you watched the final table you would find it pretty hard to believe that the guy could see others hole cards. Specifically the hand that won him the tournament when he pushed all in over the top with KQ and Ka$ino insta called with AK. Unless he knew the outcome of the board cards in advance, (he did turn the straight), then Id have to guess he was playing multiple seats, which in a tourney that large isn't that big of an advantage. Should he forfeit the cash if that is the case, absolutely, but to say that the integrity of stars has been compromised just isn't true.

You can have multiple 'Static' IP addresses not just 1. Cheating has been rampant since online pokers inception. At least PokerStars is doing something about it instead of looking past it.

I dont understand why they couldnt tell "DURING" the tournament that there was 10+(or however many he was using, i heard 10+) accounts active from this guys IP address! It seems to me that would be the first thing that they would monitor... If they didnt see that during there "MAIN EVENT" which happens to be the biggest tournament of the year on there site then I know they dont notice in the smaller regular tournaments. I guess there focus is geared more toward.... yep you guessed it, the rake! Hmm never hear of anything like this going on over on FTP....

wake of folks...doesn't anyone wonder why PokerStars releases a new version of their software (which has only fluff changes (i.e. window resizing & language display)) right before releasing this story of the disqualification (the only 1 EVER! that im aware of) of this 'theVoid' character who won... I believe the security of the software has finally been compromised and either they are able to see hidden cards, or they have some sort of algorithm calc. that based on the hand # (displayed on most poker clients), they are able to calculate the outcome of board cards.... There's to much anonymous money floating around all these card rooms for it to be ignored........ i think they should release ALL of the details of this investigation and prove to us why we shouldn't move to a different poker room, or go to live play only all together!!!

After weeks of ongoing investigation and countless rumors about the ordeal, PokerStars has released its official statement regarding the issue of the WCOOP Main Event winner 'TheV0id' using multiple account in the tournament which he won nearly $1.4 million.
