On the final day of the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open in Hollywood, Florida, Shannon Shorr struck again.
Shorr earned his sixth live trophy of 2025, taking down a $25,500 high roller and the $352,873 first-place prize. The Alabama native’s fifth title came this April, when he won the final event of the U.S. Poker Open.
Shorr agreed to a heads-up deal with Cherish Andrews to close out the event. Andrews pocketed $318,427 for her efforts.
Earlier this year, Andrews secured a career-best $408,265 cash when she won a $25,500 event during the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown series in April.
Space in Shorr’s trophy case is becoming a precious commodity. The Seminole Hard Rock guitar pick joins four PokerGO trophies and a World Series of Poker Circuit main event ring among Shorr’s 2025 trophy collection.
Add in two runner-up finishes and 11 overall final tables (three during this series alone), and it’s obvious why Shorr is among the top contenders in the Card Player Player of the Year race, presented by CoinPoker. The 420 points from his most recent win give Shorr 4,570 points in total, good for 12th overall.
A High Rolling Finale
While Jake Cody was rolling towards a victory in the SHRPO main event, the ballroom was abuzz with a half-dozen other tournaments in action. This $25,500 high roller was the most notable of the bunch, with 44 entrants bringing the prize pool just over the $1 million guarantee.
Martin Zamani went out in seventh place on the bubble to end the previous day’s play. Consequently, the final day of play started with the final six players all in the money. Andrews held the chip lead, followed by Nicholas Seward, Shorr, Jonathan Jaffe, Michael Macchia, and Frank Russo.
Despite starting the day second in chips, Seward went out first at this final table. His stack dwindled down to 14 big blinds, and he three-bet all-in with pocket sixes. Andrews, the initial raiser, called with pocket tens, and held.
Jaffe was the next to fall. Shorr opened with a min-raise to 60,000 in the cutoff, and Jaffe called in the big blind. On a 9♦5♥3♠ flop, Jaffe check-called a bet of 65,000. On the 6♣ turn, Jaffe led out for 45,000, Shorr raised to 210,000, and Jaffe called.
The 10♣ river prompted a check from Jaffe. Shorr put Jaffe all-in straightaway, for 810,000 effective, and sent Jaffe deep into the tank. Jaffe eventually called with [invalid notations] was best.
Shorr kept the pressure on in a battle of blinds. He shoved the small blind with 10♦4♦ and Russo called with Q♠10♣. Shorr found a particularly unkind runout for Russo. The A♦A♣4♠8♠2♦ board gave Shorr two-pair and eliminated Russo in fourth.
A Race To The Finish
While Shorr had a strong hold on the chip lead as three-handed play began, Andrews quickly made her move back to the top. On a board of J♦10♥5♥A♠3♣, Andrews’ K♠Q♠ made a Broadway straight to beat Shorr’s set with 10♦10♣.
Shorr picked off Machia in third place, making a diamond flush with A♦K♦ to beat Macchia’s A♠7♠. That drew both players close heading into heads-up play, and with more than 50 big blinds each, Andrews and Shorr settled in for a battle.
Andrews seemingly positioned herself for a no-doubt victory in short order. With Shorr only slightly ahead in the chip counts, the pair went to war on the river with a board of J♣2♣2♥Q♠8♦. Shorr called Andrews’ all-in bet with K♦J♠, but Andrews’ A♣2♠ was best.
Her lead of 4,130,000 to Shorr’s 255,000, good for a 16-to-1 ratio (103 big blinds to 6 big blinds) was massive.
But after four double-ups, Shorr was right back in it. Within an hour of falling so far behind, Shorr was back in the lead. As the tournament looked to be getting away from Andrews, she found a key double of her own. Andrews flopped a pair of jacks with J♥10♥ against Shorr’s A♠K♦, and the battle continued.
After exchanging the lead once more, and with registration for a $10,000 event closing, Shorr and Andrews agreed to a deal.
