Almost 15 years ago, Jake Cody made tremendous waves in the poker world. At just 22 years old, Cody completed poker’s triple crown, adding a World Series of Poker bracelet to his European Poker Tour Deauville and World Poker Tour London titles.
Not only was Cody the youngest player ever to accomplish this feat. The English wunderkind won all three titles in a span of less than 18 months.
Now 37, Cody largely stepped away from live tournament poker in the last decade. But after occasional appearances in recent years at Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood, Cody roared back into the spotlight in a major way.
On Tuesday, Aug. 12, Cody won the 2025 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open main event for $510,850. His victory in the $5,300 buy-in tournament came via a three-way deal with Jeremy Wien (2nd, $450,000) and Stephen Song (3rd, $438,000). The final three split up the lion’s share of a $4,311,650 prize pool, generated by 889 total entries. That meant more than $1.3 million over the $3 million guarantee.
“It feels unbelievable, getting the trophy, winning the tournament,” Cody said to event reporter Ryan Lucchesi. “Even if you get a lot of money, actually winning just feels so good. There’s nothing that could have gone any different, I’m very happy with it.”
It’s the first six-figure live tournament cash for Cody since October 2014.
Along with his first-place prize, Cody also claimed a staggering 1,824 points in the Card Player Player of the Year race, presented by CoinPoker. Cody now sits just outside the top 100 in the POY contest, thanks to another victory earlier in the year in Florida in a $2,200 buy-in event.
Reaching The Finale
Cody entered Tuesday’s final table with a sizable chip lead and seven players left. There was a massive pot early in the day against Song, with the potential to swing the momentum. But ultimately, after Song five-bet all-in and Cody called, Cody’s A♥K♥ chopped with Song’s A♣K♠.
Serbian Andjelko Andrejevic, who won a WSOP bracelet earlier this year, scored the first knockout of the day. His pocket fours faded Jasper Ma’s A♦Q♥, as the board ran out K♦J♣2♠6♦4♥. Ma primarily plays in live-streamed cash games, but this $106,000 result marked his third six-figure tournament cash of 2025.
Cody won a flip with J♦J♠ against Tray Jones’ A♠Q♥. The board ran out K♣9♦7♠10♦8♠ to give Cody a straight, sending Jones out in sixth.
Wien made his move up the chip counts in a harrowing pot against Shaun Davis. On a board of K♠6♠5♥, Davis checked, Wien led out, Davis check-raised, and Wien shoved. Davis called off for 21 big blinds, and tabled 5♠4♠. Wien was technically ahead with K♣10♣, but Davis hit one of his many outs on a 4♥ turn.
The 6♦ river paired the board and counterfeited Davis’ two-pair, and Wien eliminated Davis in fifth.
In a battle of the blinds, Andrejevic limp-shoved 23 big blinds from the small blind. Cody called, and his A♦J♥ held off Andrejevic’s A♣10♦ as neither player touched the board.
Chopping It Up

The final three players stepped away and hammered out a deal that brought the tournament to a close. Cody picked up the trophy and the title, and both Wien and Song made better than second place money.
Both Wien and Song have enjoyed considerable poker successes of their own. Song has almost $11 million in total career earnings, including a $1.43 million EPT Barcelona title, a 2022 WPT Prime championship victory for $712,650 and a WSOP bracelet. Wien won a WSOP bracelet in a $5,000 event back in 2018.
Cody joins the likes of Paul Snead (2024), Farid Jattin (2023) and Sergio Aido (2022) as recent SHRPO main event winners.
As strong as this performance was for Cody, don’t expect him to ramp his tournament volume back up to his heyday.
“These days I just really play cash games really,” Cody said to Lucchesi. “I play maybe like ten tournaments a year anymore, just in locations that I’m in. I still enjoy the rush of going deep, there’s no better feeling than going deep in a tournament, but cash games are where it’s at right now.”
