Professional poker is becoming a family affair for the Hellmuths.

Phil Hellmuth announced this week that the younger of his two sons, Nick, decided to become a poker pro. His father seemed happy to watch him follow in his footsteps.

Additionally, Hellmuth announced that Nick joined him in Reno as part of filming for Hellmuth’s Home Game episode as a substitute player.

“My youngest son Nick has decided to become a professional poker player,” the senior Hellmuth said on Twitter/X. “He loves the game, he loves learning the game, and he loves connecting with his older brother Phillip around game strategies. He is improving rapidly.”

All In The Family

Nick becomes the latest Hellmuth to get in on the poker action. Phillip Hellmuth III, the older of Hellmuth’s two sons, started making his mark on the poker world earlier this year. However, unlike Nick, Phillip hasn’t made the jump to a full-time poker career yet.

Phillip has more than $19,000 in tournament earnings and had his biggest win ever last May, winning $27,050 on an episode of Hellmuth’s Home Game.

In January, Phillip made his major poker tournament debut when he played three $5,000 events in the PokerGO Tour Kickoff Series.

“I staked Phillip for three PokerGO studio tourneys,” said Hellmuth. “I thought he would learn a lot, and he did. I think he has great talent and great potential. He is not a professional poker player yet, but maybe by the next WSOP, he will be a pro.”

The 34-year-old Phillip spent most of his career working as a banker.

Less is known about Nick’s time at the tables. But the 17-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner’s post indicates that, at the least, Nick has been studying the game to some degree.

Hellmuth’s Home Game debuted in July on CBS Sports Network. Unlike most shows, it airs without commentary and instead, relies on table talk amongst players to entertain viewers. Now, both Hellmuth sons will have appearances on the show.
