The total turnout now sits at 981 entries through seven flights of the $1,000,000 guaranteed $600 no-limit hold’em Midwest Championship at The Reserve Poker Club. There has already been $490,500 added to the prize pool, with four starting flights left to play in this Card Player Poker Tour event.
Wednesday, Sept. 24 saw Day 1G increase that total by 159 entries. Play continued until just 16 remained, with the clock showing 17:09 left in level 19 when the action was halted. Satoshi Tanaka (pictured above) bagged up the biggest stack with 2,020,000. That was enough to give him the overall chip lead heading into day 2, which begins Sep. 28.
Tanaka is a World Series of Poker bracelet winner with over $513,000 in prior earnings. He and Michael Savakinas were the last players standing in the 2023 WSOP $1,000 tag team event. They topped a field of 1,282 teams to lock up a team total of $190,662.
Other top stacks include Richard Viebranz (1,745,000), Anthony Sheline (1,641,000), and Kyle Janisse (1,615,000). Caryn Corsi (1,540,000), KC Vaughan (1,456,000), and two-time bracelet winner Joseph Couden (1,455,000) also bagged big.
There are now 92 players that have advanced to day 2, with four players double bagging and Courtney Kennedy having triple bagged.
