The new poker show Hellmuth’s Home Game presented by Poker Night in America debuted on Monday night on CBS Sports Network.
Creators centered the show around the 17-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner hosting a game full of friends and pros.
Unlike most televised or streamed poker shows, Hellmuth’s game does not have commentators. Instead, viewers follow the action through the table talk among players.
“‘No commentators’ has never been done before on a poker television show,” Hellmuth noted on Twitter/X. “We think the viewers will feel more like they are at the table with us, and god knows there is more than enough ‘table talk.’”
Show Highlights Players’ Personalities
BetRivers Poker, the company Hellmuth represents, sponsors the show. Rush Street Interactive’s online poker arm signed the “Poker Brat” earlier this year. Then, they recently expanded into three new states.
This move marks a significant push in the competitive space of online poker rooms.
Rush Street Productions, which has no official affiliation with the gaming company, filmed episodes at Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada. They filmed the first season in the spring. The production company plans to head back to the property in the fall for more episodes.
PNIA producers believe allowing table talk to be the main focus of the game has brought something new to the genre. Hellmuth has been part of live cash games for years, and producers seem eager to bring his and others’ personalities out the game.
“Once again, we’re innovating poker TV,” PNIA creator and producer Todd Anderson told PokerNews. “From Heartland Poker Tour to Poker Night in America, we’ve always tried to push the envelope. Removing the announcers puts the audience right in the room — it’s authentic, unscripted, and unlike anything that’s ever aired before.”
Some of those in the game included Dan “Jungelman” Cates, Xuan Liu, DJ “Chris” Washburn, Randy “3Coin” Sadler, and others. Even Hellmuth’s son, Phillip Hellmuth III, took a seat, en route to his biggest win ever. New episodes air each Monday at 8:30 p.m. ET.
CBS Sports has become the channel to find poker in recent years. Along with airing episodes of the WSOP since 2021, the network added the World Poker Tour in 2024. The channel has also carried some PokerGO events as well.
