First Borgata Winter Open Event Attracts 1,556 Poker Players

Series Takes Place This Month

Borgata Winter Poker OpenThe Borgata Winter Open kicked off its 17-day poker series with a $350 deep-stack tourney that attracted 1,556.

The Borgata will crown a champion of the series in a five-day $3,200 championship event that starts on Jan. 25. This is different from past years when the championship event was a stop of the World Poker Tour.

The $350 event had two starting days that attracted 650 players on Tuesday and 906 on Wednesday to build a prize pool of $544,600. The final nine players are guaranteed at least $10,000, and the winner will get $102,548. The event is scheduled to end tomorrow.

The series is made up of 16 events, featuring buy-ins mostly between $300 and $1,090. Here are some of the series highlights: A $300 ladies no-limit hold’em event takes place Sunday, a four-day $550 deep-stack event starts Tuesday, Jan. 20, and a $2,150 no-limit event starts Thursday, Jan. 22.

All but the Ladies event and the seniors event count toward the Card Player Player of the Year race. Satellites to the events are currently running.
