European Poker Tour Prague Starts Today

Arnaud Mattern Returns to Defend Title As 600 Players Expected in Czech Capital


The PokerStars.com European Poker Tour Prague main event starts today in the Hilton Hotel Casino in the Czech capital. The €5,000 + €250 freezout main event  runs until Dec. 13 including two starting days, with each day officially starting at 12 p.m. (local time). Blinds begin at 25/50 and players start out with 10,000 chips.

In season IV, the event attracted a 555 players from 36 countries, which in turn created a hefty prizepool of €2.5 million, and this year the cap is set at 600 with a similar field expected.

Last year’s champion was Frenchman Arnaud Mattern. Mattern faced Italian EPT regular Gino “El Diablo” Alacqua heads up to take the title and $991,760 (€708,600). Alacqua walked away with a runner up $570,220 and an urge for more. Mattern will defend his title as he attempts to do what no player has done before — take down two EPT events.Arnaud Mattern

Some notables expected to hit the felt on day 1a include Voitto Rintala, Arnaud Mattern, Ludovic Lacay, Gino Alacqua, Luca Pagano, Dario Minieri, Johnny Lodden, Marcin Horecki, Stefan Mattsson, Casey Kastle, Michael Martin, and Joe Elpayaa.
