Exclusive member Russell “losin” Simpson has been playing in poker tournaments for the past 10 years, but he was beginning to think of it as a pure lottery until he started playing on SpadeClub. He began re-learning the game on SpadeClub and making some friends along the way. Simpson put his newly found skills to use in the $5,000 weekly event and beat out 1,237 members to take home the grand prize of $1,500.
Simpson loves to play on SpadeClub because it is a great place to learn the game and the community is very helpful. Simpson said that SpadeClub is definitely a great learning site and that “the people playing on the site are what makes [it great]. If you play honestly and openly, they’ll point out what you’re doing right and wrong. If I started listing all of the players who gave me different and better ideas on how to play, I’d fill the page with screen names.”
Card Player: First off, can you tell us a little about yourself?
Russell “losin” Simpson: Well, I’m originally from
CP: How long have you played poker, and what got you interested in SpadeClub?
RS: I’ve been playing poker since my early teens, and tournaments for the past 10 years. The “kids” invaded most of the other sites. After you go past so many players in no-limit hold’em, it becomes pure lottery.
CP: Do you have any plans for this money?
RS: I’d say “add it to the pile,” but it pretty much is the pile. I was trying to raise funds to play in Scotty Nguyen’s tourney in
CP: What are some of your other poker accomplishments?
RS: Legally? I took down a couple of small tournaments at Harrah’s and Showboat in
CP: What was your first poker experience like?
RS: Do you realize how old most of us are? I can’t remember, but I’m pretty sure I lost, and I’m pretty sure that’s when I got hooked. Crazy how that works, huh?
CP: What was the hardest lesson you had to learn while playing poker?
RS: Patience. A close second would be self control.
CP: What do you think sets great players apart from merely good players?
RS: Consistency. Not just winning percentages, but how they handle the game in general. How well they constantly adapt and overcome.
CP: Do you consider yourself a recreational, amateur, or professional poker player?
RS: Semi-pro. (Insert that choice between “amateur” and “professional.”)
CP: What is your next goal on SpadeClub? How do you plan to accomplish it?
RS: I want to back up this win. I’ll get that done the same way I did this one: pacing, praying, yelling, and screaming.
CP: Do you have any general advice to share with our readers about succeeding at SpadeClub?
RS: Join! “All you can eat” is the greatest ad-line yet. Once a member, you’ll see the benefits.
CP: Have you participated in any of the community features of SpadeClub? If so, what do you think?
RS: I’m kind of wordy, so I like the blogs. I don’t read as many as I should. I like when people comment on your statements; the comments are either insightful or funny. Can I say “great bunch of people” one more time?
CP: Anything else you would like to add?
RS: SpadeClub was one of the smartest ideas ever for online poker. I applaud and thank the Shulmans and anyone else who help created it and got it going.
