GigaMedia, the publicly-quoted Taiwanese owner of Everest Poker, has reported second quarter growth of 26 percent on the same period in 2007 to $27.4 million. Revenue declined 8 percent when compared to the first quarter of 2008 but the company said the figures were “solid… despite seasonal slowdown and [the] European soccer championship."
Active depositing real money players were also down 8 percent on the first quarter to 191,000 but the company added 46,000 new depositing real money players although this was also down 32 percent quarter-on-quarter.
The company, which sponsored the poker tables at this year’s World Series of Poker, said it expects the ESPN coverage of the event to give a “strong boost” to figures in Q4 and into 2009.
The company is launching its sports betting offering later in the year.
