Jose Miguel Espinar, from Valencia, Spain has won the PokerStars.net Latin American Poker Tour in Punta del Este, Uruguay taking home $241,735 for topping the field of 351 players. Remarkably, Espinar has only been playing poker for nine months.
The Spaniard beat Alex Brenes, brother of Humberto, heads up to lift the title. Brenes made a final table at an earlier
LAPT event and took home $126,675 for his second place finish in Uruguay.
Players travelled from all over the world to take part in the event with 34 countries represented and across the three events (the others were held in Rio de Janiero, Brazil and San José, Costa Rica) over one-third of the entire field of 1,110 players qualified on PokerStars.
The final nine who took the lion’s share of the $851,175 in Punta del Este were:
