The PokerStars.com European Poker Tour Polish Open in Warsaw played down to 26 players last night with a smattering of Northern Europeans, Southern Europeans, and Americans leading the charge.
Day three started with 130 players, among them was Andy Black, recently triumphant at the Premier League in London and sitting on just above average on 40,000 in chips. He spun this up, as he regularly does with consummate ease, to almost 100,000, before crashing to about 15,000. But, on this occasion, he avoided the often inevitable burn, winning a handful of all-ins and finishing the day on 85,000 in chips. Something his opponents will surely fear today.
Cristiano Blanco was the unfortunate bubble boy, dispatched by PokerStars qualifier Ken Hicks, who would finish the day on a robust 225,000 in chips.
Elsewhere, both Trond Eidsvig and Thierry van den Berg set a new record for cashing in EPTs in a single season, with Warsaw marking their fourth in the money finishes.
The top 10 in chips going into day three are:
- Juan Maceiras (Spain) — 388,000
- Claus Nielsen (Denmark) — 345,500
- Mathias Viberg (Sweden) — 284,000
- Ricardo Sousa (Portugal) — 239,000
- Kenneth Hicks Jr. (USA) — 225,000
- Daniel Woolson (USA) — 188,500
- Dan B. Pedersen (Denmark) — 178,000
- Henrik Gwinner (Denmark) — 165,000
- Willian Johnson (USA) — 158,000
- Christian Öman (Sweden) — 147,500
Casualties on the day included Julian Thew, Liz Lieu, Johnny Lodden, and Danny Ryan.
