Ongame Network's innovative Heat poker tournaments have seen growth of more than 200 percent since they were introduced two months ago.
The $1,000 buy-in monthly grand tournament started in 2005, but the Heat element was introduced in August, and by October 620 players participated.
Heats emulate major offline poker tournaments by allowing players a choice of days in which to start their participation in the grand tournament.
Ongame Network has more than 25 poker-partner sites, and the Heat concept increases a player's accessibility and choice.
Spokesperson Tomer Katz said, "The driving force behind the recent increase in contestants is largely due to the added flight on Fridays, which has become immensely popular. We are now looking into the possibility of introducing other innovative features that will spice up the event even more."
The next grand tournament, the 19th in the series, takes place Nov. 23-25 and has a $500,000 guarantee. The Heats run on Friday and Saturday, with the survivors combining for the final on Sunday.
