Card players in Michigan now have a new venue to play at after FireKeepers Casino Hotel in Battle Creek, Michigan, opened its new poker room last week.
The new room includes 21 tables and is located next to the property’s sportsbook. Players can take advantage of amenities like: a self-service beverage station; an upgraded cashier experience for faster transactions; and a special final table area for major tournament action that can also be reserved for private games and group events.
“Our new poker room is more than just a new location — it’s a true hub for everything poker,” director of table games John Fell said. “Whether you’re here for daily games, major tournaments, or just to enjoy the atmosphere, this space delivers the energy and amenities that players expect from a top-tier poker destination.”
Along with cash game offerings, Firekeepers hosts several daily tournaments throughout the week and the new room is open from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. daily.
Each spring and fall, the property hosts the Major Series of Poker Tour (formerly named the Mid-States Poker Tour) events with $1 million guarantees. The first MSPT stop with the new poker room is set for May 15-18, featuring a $1,100 buy-in main event.
Nick Murray won the last MSPT event at the property. Last October, Murray topped the Michigan State Poker Championship for $295,494.
The former poker room will now be integrated into the main casino and house slot machines.
Firekeepers becomes the latest of several casinos adding new or upgraded poker rooms. Planet Hollywood recently announced that a new 23-table venue will open on the Las Vegas Strip this month, just in time for the World Series of Poker. Caesars Palace is also reopening that property’s poker room in time for the WSOP as well.
In Nebraska, Grand Island Casino Resort, about 90 miles west of Lincoln, recently opened that state’s first live poker room. In February, Virginia players saw the new Hard Rock Casino Bristol unveil a new 14-table room.
Michigan already has a thriving online poker industry with several options to play on the virtual felt.
