At a time when casinos are closing poker rooms, players in southwest Virginia now have a new option. The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Bristol officially opened in November, but unveiled a brand new poker room on Friday.
The room features 14 tables and will spread a variety of cash games and tournaments.
“We’re excited to bring a first-class poker room to Hard Rock Bristol,” Vice President of Gaming Operations Alan Thompson said. “With a mix of cash games and tournament play, we’re offering something for every poker player, whether they’re local or traveling from afar. We look forward to welcoming guests from across the region and beyond to experience our state-of-the-art venue.”
The poker room is non-smoking and conveniently located next to the casino’s new non-smoking gaming space, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable atmosphere for all players.
Bristol is located on the border with Tennessee and has the potential to bring in players from that state as well. Previously, poker players in the area had to travel about three hours south to Cherokee, North Carolina or east to Danville, Virginia to find live action.
The 620,000-square-foot casino also has 1,500 slot machines, 50 table games, a sportsbook, more than 300 hotel rooms, and a 2,000-plus seat entertainment venue. Florida’s Seminole tribe owns the Hard Rock brand and has expanded the company’s casino business across the country over the last decade, including purchasing the Mirage in Las Vegas in 2021.
The poker room opening bucks a trend in the industry. Several poker rooms have closed in Las Vegas in recent years, including the Sahara shutting the casino’s room in November.
