Cody Stanford seems unstoppable on the live poker circuit in 2025. The Tupelo, MS resident has already cashed seven times in the new year, including four official final-table finishes and three titles. All of those in-the-money finishes have come in events hosted in Stanford’s home state of Mississippi, with $404,123 in total earnings accrued along the way. As a result, he now sits in first place in the 2025 Card Player Player of the Year race presented by Global Poker. He now has more than $1.7 million in total lifetime tournament earnings to his name.

Stanford started off his impressive run taking down the $1 million guaranteed $500 buy-in event at the Beau Rivage Heater series for $181,487 and finishing third in the $1,200 main event at the same series for $168,923. He then made his way to the World Series of Poker Circuit Horseshoe Tunica series and took down back-to-back gold ring events to grow his lifetime total to six. He became just the 65th player in the tour’s history to have won six or more rings.

“I feel really grateful,” Stanford told Poker.org reporters on the scene after the win. “I really appreciate my wife staying home with the kids and letting me do what I do, and I’m really grateful to my friends as well. I also like to always give glory to God.”

The first win at the WSOPC stop saw Stanford best a field of 160 in the $25,000 guaranteed $400 no-limit hold’em event. He earned $13,075, the hardware, and 125 POY points after defeating Patrick Farnham heads-up.

The very next ring event was the $1,100 pot-limit Omaha $50,000 guarantee. Stanford overcame the field of 149 entries to earn his sixth career gold ring, the $36,423 top prize, and 288 points.

Stanford first secured a WSOPC win back in 2017 at the WSOP Circuit IP Biloxi stop, taking down a $365 no-limit hold’em event. In 2022 he won a $400 six-max title at the WSOPC Harrah’s Cherokee stop for his second ring. The third and fourth both came in the spring of 2024. He came out on top in a $400 pot-limit Omaha event at this same venue in April, and then won a $2,200 high roller at Harrah’s Cherokee the following month.
