Potawatami CasinoPoker players and sports bettors in the Midwest will soon have some new options for getting in on the action. The Potawatomi Casino Hotel in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has announced that the property’s new sportsbook and poker room will open on May 3.

The casino is owned and operated by the Forest County Potawatomi Community and has been a popular spot for players in the region. The property is now hoping to take the two venues to the next level as part of a wider $190 million renovation project that began in May 2022.

“Since opening more than 30 years ago, Potawatomi Hotel and Casino has made it a priority to evolve and meet the needs of our guests,” CEO and General Manager Dominic Ortiz said when the project was announced. “Not only will this elevate the brand, it will further our long-standing status as the premier entertainment destination in the region as the market becomes significantly more competitive.”

Poker Room & Sportsbook Details

This will mark the return of the poker room after it shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic. The new 14-table space is located in the former Northern Lights Theater, which closed in early 2023.

The room plans on spreading cash games, but has also hosted mid-major tournament series such as the Mid-States Poker Tour events over the years as well. The poker room will be adjacent to the new sportsbook and will share access to food and beverage options, including 40 beers on tap.

The sportsbook will offer two floors to check out and wager on the day’s action along with a 2,000-square-foot LED screen, a broadcast booth with a three-camera system for live events, and an additional 20 TV screens. The venue has a capacity for 200 guests and also features betting kiosks and several betting windows.

“There is simply no retail betting space outside of Las Vegas that can rival the sophistication of our new venue,” sportsbook director Sean Cullen told WISN. “Ranked no. 2 in the country for gross gaming revenue among publicly reporting sportsbooks, our 75 existing kiosks have established us as a formidable player. We anticipate our new retail sports betting venue to position us as a premier travel destination in the Midwest.”

Poker has received a shot in the arm lately with other properties also opening or renovating rooms. The Venetian recently announced an expansion of the largest poker room in Las Vegas, which will also include a dedicated live stream space.
