Ari Engel after winning his record 16th WSOPC gold ringAri Engel now stands alone as the all-time World Series of Poker Circuit gold ring leader. The Canadian poker pro was tied with Maurice Hawkins with 15 WSOPC titles to his name thanks to back-to-back victories during the WSOPC Graton Casino stop in Northern California in August. On Tuesday, Oct. 10 he emerged victorious in the $400 buy-in Omaha eight-or-better event at the WSOPC Horseshoe Hammond festival for his record-setting 16th ring.

“It’s obviously nice to win, but my heart is in Jerusalem right now, so it’s bittersweet. I’ve been playing a lot of these tournaments and it’s definitely better to win them than lose,” Engel told Poker.org reporters after coming out on top.

He also mentioned the other players near the top of the WSOPC rings leaderboard, saying, “Maurice [Hawkins], Josh [Reichard], and Dan Lowery all have much better ratios when it comes to tournaments played versus rings. I play a lot more than them. They’re records are good and they’re good players.”

Here are the nine players with 10 or more WSOPC rings won:

WSOPC Rings Player(s)
16 Ari Engel
15 Maurice Hawkins
14 Joshua Reichard, Daniel Lowery

The two-time WSOP bracelet winner from Toronto, Canada has won five rings in 2023 alone, with two coming online to go with his two in California and one in Indiana. Engel’s very first ring victory took place back in 2007, when he took down a $300 buy-in event at WSOP Caesars Atlantic City for $63,018.

Engel, who turned 40 years old last month, now has more than $8.7 million in tournament earnings, with over $1 million of that coming from his 181 recorded WSOPC cashes. This latest win was his sixth overall victory of the year. He earned 96 Card Player Player of the Year points for the win.

Engel’s 24 POY-qualified final-table finishes are the most of any player so far in 2023. With 2,648 total points, he now sits in 80th place in the overall POY standings presented by Global Poker.
