
While the month was good compared to recent months where the Macau industry was still in decline, the $2.4 billion result wasn’t nearly as solid as what some were expecting. Bloomberg reported that analysts were expecting January growth of about eight percent.
Estimates ranged from five to 12 percent growth compared to January 2016, the report said.
Macau casino win was $27.9 billion last year, a 3.3 percent decline compared to 2015. However, gaming win fell more than 34 percent in 2015 compared to 2014.
The state of Nevada announced 2016 gaming win this week. Silver State casinos won $11.26 billion from gamblers last year, up about a percentage point year-over-year.
