A Las Vegas-based casino operator is asking Indiana lawmakers to do something they have never done before—allow a Las Vegas-style casino in Indianapolis.
According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Full House Resorts has proposed building a $650 million casino complex on land once used by the city’s airport. The proposed casino would be called “American Place” and would feature 700 slot machines and table games.
The company would take about half of the games from its existing Rising Sun Casino in southeastern Indiana. Full House Resorts also has gambling facilities in Mississippi and Nevada.
The move would help the company because of competition from Ohio casinos.
“We can build something here that doesn’t exist anywhere else,” the company reportedly said in a statement. “Given the adjacency of the airport, we expect the center to attract people from throughout the country to an experience that is part Indianapolis, part Las Vegas, and 100 percent unique.”
A study found that $85 million per year in state and local taxes could be generated by the project, as well as the creation of 4,000 permanent jobs. Between 10 million to 15 million people annually could visit the casino complex.
