Online Poker: Bodog $70K Overlay Still Near $30K

Attendance Has Gone Up Since NETELLER Pullout But Overlay Is Still Huge

The Bodog $70,000-guaranteed tournament's attendance, at 833 entrants, was slightly up from last week, when it had 801. While it is a good sign that attendance is going up in the wake of the NETELLER pullout, the tournament is still a relatively far cry from the 1,051 entrants it had the week before the NETELLER news broke. The 833 entrants, at a $50 buy-in apiece, meant that Bodog put up $28,350 out of pocket to cover the posted guarantee. Bodog is hosting another $70,000-guaranteed tournament tonight at 8:30 p.m. EST.

LindaLtown and cowboybill were vying for the first-place position upon entering the final table, being the only players to have broken into an above-$500,000 stack. Cowboybill made an early exit after being crippled when he called a preflop all-in with a dominated ace. He eventually finished in eighth ($1,680). LindaLtown made it to three-way play, but was no longer the chip leader. In the elimination hand right before three-way play began, ouchie18 pulled into the lead for the first time, after having been a mid-stack for much of the tournament.

LindaLtown, just a few minutes after getting a walk in the big blind and showing pocket kings, went up against the pocket kings of ouchie18 while holding Aheart 5club for his final hand. LindaLtown made $6,300 for third place. LindaLtown's elimination, the final elimination before heads-up play, coincided perfectly with a five-minute break in the tournament, allowing the two remaining players to take a rest before the final stretch. However, a rest was unlikely to be necessary, as ouchie18 had $2.1 million versus dirtysteve's $369,000 in second. With ouchie18's almost 6-to-1 chip advantage, dirtysteve had some catching up to do.

The heads-up match lasted just three-and-a-half minutes. Dirtysteve made one solid double up before the final hand. Ouchie18 raised to $128,000 preflop, with the big blind at $40,000, and dirtysteve called. The flop came Jclub 6spade 3club and dirtysteve checked. Ouchie18 bet $140,000 and dirtysteve raised to $320,000, after some time. Ouchie18 pushed all in over the top and dirtysteve called all in instantly and showed Kclub Qclub for overcards and a flush draw. Ouchie18 showed Kdiamond 6heart for a pair of sixes and the lead. However, the hand was anything but clear-cut at this point, as dirtysteve had an almost 48 percent chance to win the hand. The turn was the 8spade, dropping his chances of survival to 27 percent, and the river was the 5heart to put the final nail in dirtysteve's coffin. He went home in second place with $9,800. Ouchie18 took down the final pot and the first-place prize money of $17,500.

The final standings were:

1) ouchie18 – $17,500
2) dirtysteve – $ 9,800
3) LindaLtown – $6,300
4) missncash – $4,550
5) TonyAKQJ – $3,780
6) jnort69 – $3,080
7) Jotun665 – $2,380
8) cowboybill – $1,680
9) PoorSkillz – $1,085

Bodog hosts two $70,000-guaranteed tournaments a week, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m. EST. The tournaments have had huge overlays since their inception, but the overlays have further increased in size since the NETELLER pullout, making the tournaments an even better deal for the buy-in price. Those interested in taking advantage of the overlay tournaments can do so by clicking here.
