‘Technical Problems’ Result In Massive $260,000 Overlay In Sunday Tournament On PokerStars

No Late Registration Due To Error, Firm Says

A Sunday poker tournament with a $500,000 guarantee closed registration for good with less than half of that sum already generated. PokerStars, the firm running it, said that the costly incident was in error.

“Due to technical problems, the Sunday Warm-Up had no Late Registration,” the firm said in a statement posted to social media.

“As a result players who wished to late reg will not be able to play. There is a substantial overlay in the event for those playing. We apologize for the inconvenience for those who wanted to play but couldn’t.”

Around 1,200 players paid the $200+$15 entry fee, which resulted in them getting around double their value for the buy-in. First placed earned $85,000.

The mishap was noticed by many, and generated some laughs on social media.
