Last night's UltimateBet Online Championships (UBOC) event was the most successful tournament yet in terms of surpassing expectations. The no-limit hold'em tournament, the sixth event in the UBOC series, posted a guarantee of $100,000, but the actual prize pool rose to a third more than the guarantee. The tournament's 672 entrants vied for a piece of the $136,400 prize pool, with a first-place prize of $32,054, and the highly sought-after silver UBOC bracelet.
When it came down to the final 10, CP_MagiciaN was in the lead with $294,000. The very first hand put that to an end when T LaZeR ($172,000) in third went all in preflop with aces against CP_MagiciaN with kings. Neither improved and T LaZeR was the new chip leader. The hand left CP_MagiciaN in seventh with $122,000 while the short stack at the table, Pckt Bullets, had just $88,000.
The Piper 24 ($190,000) was sitting in third at that point, but the second hand of the table knocked him into the short stack. In that hand, after raising preflop and being called by CP_MagiciaN he pushed all in on a flop of 9
5
3
after some aggressive back and forth action between the two. CP_MagiciaN called all in and showed pocket nines, to give him a set versus The Piper 24's pocket sevens. CP_MagiciaN had the only club and The Piper 24 did not get the running cards he needed to take the hand. Left severely crippled, he went all in preflop with the 9
8 and was called by totheright with pocket queens. Totheright flopped a set and turned quads for massive overkill in eliminating The Piper 24 in tenth ($1,364).
Pckt Bullets was back in place as the short stack and his dwindling chips didn't last through another elimination. He reraised all in preflop against Pillow Pants and Pillow Pants called. Pckt Bullets showed pocket fours and Pillow Pants held the K J
. Pillow Pants got the king he needed on the turn to eliminate Pckt Bullets in ninth, earning $2,387.
Less than 10 minutes later, D2005 was now the short stack with $101,000 and he raised to $24,000 preflop in what would be his final hand. Korjae called and the flop came J
8 2
. D2005 pushed all in and korjae called and showed A
J
. D2005 held A
9
and needed one of the two non-spade nines to survive. The turn was the 4
and his fate was sealed. He left the table in eighth with a $3,410 payday.
Despite taking the chip lead in the first hand of the table, T LaZeR had since dropped down to fourth place after some big hands. T LaZeR raised to $28,000 preflop with the big blind at $10,000 and totheright called from the small blind. The flop came A
Q 9
and totheright checked. T LaZeR bet $37,000 and totheright check-raised up to $100,000. T LaZeR reraised all in for $265,000 and totheright called and showed pocket nines for a set. T LaZeR flipped up A
Q
for two pair and was behind. Two deuces rolled off on the turn and river to give totheright a full house, nines full of deuces, and T LaZeR was sent to the rail in seventh ($4,774).
Beets12 was the next to go when he pushed all in preflop as the short stack and was called by totheright. Totheright showed A J
and beets12 revealed pocket tens for the lead. The flop was incredibly fortuitous for totheright when it came A
J
J to give him a full house and pretty much a locked hand. The turn and river were blanks and beets12 was sent packing in sixth with $6,138.
Bxplaya moved into the short stack and then moved off the table just one minute later. He called all in preflop against CP_MagiciaN's preflop all in and showed A J
. CP_MagiciaN was one step ahead of him with A
Q
for the lead. The board bricked out and CP_MagiciaN's queen played to knock bxplaya out in fifth ($7,502).
With four players left, totheright ($864,000) had almost exactly twice as much as Pillow Pants in second place and korjae was the short stack at $178,000. Korjae pushed all in preflop with the big blind at $12,000 and totheright called. Korjae held Q 10
and totheright flipped up K
J
for the lead. The flop was bad news for totheright when it brought Q J
10
to give korjae two pair. However, it wasn't all bad as it also gave totheright a pair and an open-ended straight draw. Totheright still had a 40 percent chance to win the hand. The turn was a blank with the 2 but the river brought the A
to give totheright his straight to take the hand and eliminate korjae. Korjae took home $9,207 for his fourth-place finish.
After getting knocked down a few pegs in the first hand and then quickly rebuilding his stack, CP_MagiciaN was finally down to the felt when it came down to three players. He had $229,000 and that was halved in less than a minute before his final hand. With $112,000 remaining, he pushed all in against a preflop raise from totheright and totheright called. Totheright showed K
7 and CP_MagiciaN turned over pocket fours for the lead. The flop brought a king for totheright to basically put an end to CP_MagiciaN's tournament life and the turn and river were blanks to seal his fate. CP_MagiciaN cashed in $13,299 for third place.
Totheright now had a massive chip lead at the start of heads-up play, with $1.3 million compared to Pillow Pants' $424,000. Pillow Pants put up a good fight, at one point getting his stack over $600,000, but ultimately his chip count reverted back to where it started. In what would be the final hand, totheright raised to $51,000 preflop and Pillow Pants called. The flop came Q
6 4
and Pillow Pants checked. Totheright bet $106,000 and Pillow Pants pushed all in over the top for $398,000. Totheright called and showed K 6
for middle pair, while Pillow Pants held 10
7
for a flush draw. The flush never came, as the turn and river were Q and 3
, and Pillow Pants was rendered the runner-up ($20,119). Totheright pocketed $32,054 for his win and the coveted silver UBOC winner's bracelet.
The final standings were:
1) totheright – $32,054
2) Pillow Pants – $20,119
3) CP_MagiciaN – $13,229
4) korjae – $9,207
5) bxplaya – $7,502
6) beets12 – $6,138
7) T LaZeR – $4,774
8) D2005 – $3,410
9) Pckt Bullets – $2,387
10) The Piper 24 – $1,364
