Poker players split a six-figure bad beat jackpot at Los Angeles’ Hustler Casino this week. One table chopped up a $100,000 payout in a $2-$5 cash game, when a straight flush lost to a higher straight flush.

The game features buy-ins from $200 to $500. The Hustler’s “Super Jackpot” had been building since Sept 1.

The winner of the hand was holding J10 on a board of 77889. The loser held 65.

Loser Of Hand Collected $40K

A bad beat jackpot is a popular promotion found in many poker rooms. The house takes out $1 from each pot to build the progressive jackpot. The payout is triggered when one premium hand loses to an even better hand.

The “loser” of the hand usually takes home the biggest portion of the payout. In this case, the player with the losing straight flush collected 40%, for a $40,000 payday. The winner of the hand collected 20% for $20,000. The other six players at the table divided the remaining 40% for $6,600 each.

This was quite a result for a pot of just a few hundred dollars. The casino shared the hand with some fanfare on X.

Bad Beat Payouts

There have been several massive bad beat jackpot payouts over the last few years. In July, Quebec’s Playground Poker Club paid out a CAD $2.2 million (or $1.6 million) when a straight flush beat another straight flush.

The Playground set the bad beat jackpot record in August 2023 for CAD $2.6 million. Then in October 2023, the property paid out CAD $1.3 million followed by another CAD $1.8 million in March 2024. In September 2024, Playground saw a CAD $1.7 million payout triggered.

In the US, the Lodge Card Club in Texas saw the largest bad beat jackpot in the history of the state in February 2025. The hand delivered a $289,376 payout to a group of fortunate players in a $1-$2-$5 pot-limit Omaha game
