Iowa Moves Ahead With Online Poker Bill

Measure Passes Senate Subcommittee on Monday

The Quad City Times reported Tuesday that an Iowa Senate subcommittee voted on Monday to send an online poker bill one step deeper into the legislature.

Senate Study Bill 3164, which would legalize online poker and have it regulated by the state, now goes to the Senate State Government Committee, which reportedly could consider it this week.

The measure has drawn some strong opposition from anti-online gambling advocates, according to the Quad City Times.

In December, Iowa gaming regulators published a report on the potential regulatory framework for intrastate web poker.

Iowa failed to pass Internet poker legislation in both 2010 and 2011.
