The World Poker Tour recently announced that it has added another Florida stop to its Season X schedule: Seminole Hard Rock Lucky Hearts Showdown running Feb. 10-14, 2012 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel in Hollywood, Florida.
The buy-in for the new stop’s main event will be $3,500 and will include a Day 1B re-entry option. The final table of the event will feature live streaming coverage with commentary by WPT Raw Deal host and Card Player blogger Tony Dunst.
Ever since Florida legislators lifted limits on cash game and tournament
buy-ins on July 1, 2010, Florida has become an increasingly popular option on the
tournament circuit and now plays host to four main event stops on the WPT tenth season.
Events include the WPT Jacksonville $3,500 main event that took place in November, the new Lucky Hearts Showdown event just announced, a $5,000 buy-in main event in Jacksonville in late April, 2012 and the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown $10,000 televised main event.
This tournament had its premiere this past April, making a splash with 433 entrants and a $4.1 million prize pool.
Eventual champion Taylor von Kriegenbergh took home the impressive first-place prize of $1.1 million and the historical honor of being the first player to ever win a WPT title on Florida soil.
The WPT is not the only tour to take part in the Floridian poker boom. The World Series of Poker Circuit also joined in with a stop at the Palm Beach Kennel Club that played host to ten events, including a $1,600 main event that drew 742 players and created a $1 million prize pool.
Tournaments with $1,000 buy-ins or higher have popped up around the state, with events in Miami, Tampa Bay, Palm Beach, Jacksonville, Hollywood and Pompano Beach. For more tournament info, check out Card Player’s tournament listings page.
