As the first hands of the World Series of Poker's main event were dealt today, so many people crowded into the Amazon Room that WSOP officials were forced to keep spectators out of the room until 70 or so alternates are seated.
Fans will be allowed into the room at approximately 2 p.m., but that could change.
The mass of people created a fire hazard and made it extremely difficult for players to make their way to their seats. Since this is only the first day of a four-day staggered start, fans should expect to be prevented from watching the first hour or two of play Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Even when fans are permitted to enter the Amazon Room, they should expect a wait as security will only allow a safe number of people in the room.
