A chance at some free slot play packed in players at Treasure Island on the Las Vegas Strip this week. So much so that the casino canceled a planned month-long promotion after just three days.
The casino promised $200 in free play to new and existing rewards club members, much more than a traditional free play deal. The slot play was supposed to be available Monday through Wednesday until Sept. 7. The casino promoted the offer through email, app notifications, and mailers sent out to customers.
The result was a packed casino, with gamblers reportedly waiting in line for up to six hours. The casino ultimately cut the promotion short.
“Due to overwhelming response, the offer reached its planned capacity earlier than anticipated,” a casino representative told Casino.org.
Promotion Draws A Packed House
Typical casino free play promotions run in the range of $25 to $50, so the $200 brought in plenty of gamblers hoping to cash in. News of the promotion spread quickly on social media and lines dragged because of a limited number of kiosks to sign up, according to reports.

According to witness reports, the casino allegedly cut the line off at one point, assuring everyone already still in it that the promotion would be honored. Hours later, much of that same crowd was then told they were out of luck. Angered patrons demanded answers for why they wasted their time in line, only to get confused responses from overwhelmed employees.
Free Slot Play A Common Gimmick For Casinos
The offer required players to wager all of the $200 in one session. However, with the average return to players on penny slots on the Strip at about 88%, a gambler could expect to recoup around $175.
These types of promotions rely on slot fans to continue playing. The property hopes to win back any winnings and more in the long run.
In other slot machine news, a lucky gambler hit a $10.3 million jackpot at Westgate Casino in Las Vegas in June on just a $5 wager playing IGT Megabucks Wolf Run slot.
In 2024, another gambler hit a jackpot for almost the same amount at Cannery Casino in Las Vegas. The same year, a Sin City gambler won three jackpots in three hours for a total of $667,000.
