Ask any group of poker players how you played your hand and they’ll come up with dozens of different opinions. That’s just the nature of the game.

Each week, Card Player will select a hand from the high-stakes, big buy-in poker world, break it down and show that there’s more than one way to get the job done.

The Scenario

Heads-up for a major tournament title, Olivier Busquet raised to 250,000 on the button and was called by Jannick Wrang in the big blind. The flop fell 8Diamond Suit 3Diamond Suit 2Club Suit and Wrang checked.

Busquet continued with a bet of 250,000 and Wrang called. The turn was the 5Spade Suit and Wrang checked. Busquet checked behind and the 10Heart Suit hit the river.

Wrang bet 560,000 and Busquet quickly called with JClub Suit 10Spade Suit. Wrang revealed 10Diamond Suit 5Diamond Suit for two pair and took down the pot, boosting his stack to 11 million.

The Questions

What do you think about both players’ lines? Do you like continuation betting the same amount that you raised preflop? Do you think Wrang should have played his flush draw more aggressively, perhaps check raising the flop or donk betting the turn? What about Wrang’s bet sizing on the river? Critique the hand from both perspectives and let us know how you would of played it.

Jannick WrangWhat Actually Happened

The pot gave Wrang a nearly 2-1 chip lead in the EPT Campione main event. He continued to grind Busquet down until the final hand, when his AHeart Suit 6Diamond Suit came from behind to best Busquet’s ADiamond Suit 9Heart Suit by making a runner-runner straight.

Busquet was awarded with €430,000 for his runner-up finish, but Wrang earned his first EPT title and the top prize of €640,000.
