Just one day after Vanessa Selbst claimed back-to-back victories at the North American Poker Tour Mohegan Sun main event, fellow Team PokerStars pro Jason Mercier accomplished the same feat, taking down the High Roller Bounty Shootout event for the second year in a row.
In 2010, Mercier defeated a field of 35 on his way to the title. This time around, he had to navigate his way through 78 strong opponents. Mercier came out on top of a final table that included the likes of Micah Raskin, Jimmie Guinther, Jonathan Jaffe, Michael Pesek and Eugene Katchalov, whom he beat heads up.
Mercier entered heads-up play having already locked up the bonus for claiming the most bounties and sat with a 3-2 chip lead. It didn’t take long for all of the chips to be shoved into the middle on a flop of 9

Katchalov showed 87
for flopped two pair, but Mercier was drawing very live with 10
9 for top pair and an open-ended straight draw. The turn and river fell 310, giving Mercier the best hand and the win.
Mercier collected a total of $246,600 for his efforts. He picked up $40,000 for winning his first table, an additional $44,000 in bounties, $142,600 for winning the final table and an extra $20,000 for collecting the most bounties overall. He has also earned a free entry into the next High Roller Bounty Shootout.
