Gus Hansen has started 2011 just as he did 2010 — winning more than $2 million on the virtual felt.
Despite last February also giving Hansen an upswing, his results went south from that point, and he finished the year in a massive hole. Hansen’s online career has been marked by vicious swings of this nature.
This year, most of his profits have come from the $500-$1,000 pot-limit Omaha cap game on Full Tilt Poker. Even with winning few pots worth more than six-figures, Hansen has still managed to be the biggest winner so far this year, thanks to a $1.3 million win over the past week.
While Hansen has been dominating capped pot-limit Omaha, the biggest pot of the past week was at the rarely played $500-$1,000 uncapped version off the game. Patrik Antonius and Phil “OMGClayAIken” Galfond sat down at the virtual felt on Saturday and in their lengthy, but uneventful match (Antonius finished up just $80,000) saw the following hand occur:

6. Galfond checked, and Antonius fired about $50,000. Galfond shoved for $115,000 total, and Antonius called all in for about $48,000 more. Galfond tabled the 9

and was drawing versus the A A 8 8 of Antonius. According to Card Player’s Omaha Odds Calculator, Antonius’ hand holds up about 64 percent of the time.
The players elected to run it twice. The first turn and river brought running sixes, giving Antonius a full house. The second run yielded a 10 and a J, also giving the Finnish pro the hand. Antonius scooped in the $250,000 pot.
Although Galfond suffered a small loss to Antonius, he managed to win more than $500,000 versus Scott “URnotINdanger2” Palmer this past week in capped $500-$1,000 pot-limit Omaha.
Palmer was able to recover some of the losses to Galfond by taking Viktor “Isildur1” Blom for slightly more than $100,000 on PokerStars over the weekend.
