Two PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) events took place last night, including the fourth of seven events with guarantees of $1 million or more. As with every WCOOP event thus far, both events surged past their guarantees with ease. WCOOP Event No. 13: $200 No-Limit Hold’em Rebuy
The first event of the evening was a $200 no-limit hold’em rebuy event. The tournament had a guarantee of $1 million, and it went almost 30 percent beyond that when 2,234 entrants bought in and used 2,635 rebuys and 1,524 add-ons, putting $1,278,600 into the prize pool. If the final table played to completion without a deal being struck, the winner would get more than $200,000.
Kevin “BeL0WaB0Ve” Saul was the chip leader of the tournament in the late stages, and he eventually made the final table before ultimately busting out in sixth place ($48,587). Two other players who topped the leader board through much of the tournament were Josh “nitbuster” Arieh and lrdvoldemort, both of whom made the final three in the event, along with moe32746. Nitbuster bowed out in third place when his A-J ran into lrdvoldemort’s A-Q. He pocketed $110,000, and heads-up play began.
Both lrdvoldemort and moe32746 had cashed in previous WCOOP events this year, so their appetites had been whetted for the real money, and, with no talk of a deal, more than $54,000 was on the line as the difference between the first- and second-place paydays. The match started with lrdvoldemort holding a negligible chip lead, but he eventually built that lead to 4.5-1. After more than 17 hours, the chips went in with moe32746 holding two pair and lrdvoldemort tabling trip fives for the lead. The lead held, and lrdvoldemort raked in the final pot to snag $207,773 and a gold WCOOP bracelet.

WCOOP Event No. 14: $300 Seven-Card Stud
The final event of the evening was a $300 buy-in seven-card stud tournament. The tournament lured 627 entrants for a prize pool of $188,100, almost double the guarantee of $100,000. Among the notables to make deep runs were Jonas “Telefonkiosk” Lennartsson, who barely missed the final table when he finished in 10th ($2,915), and Steve “thorladen” Weinstein (17th, $1,881).
The three chip leaders going into the final table were adsonvonmelk, Mildred53, and tiffaniejoy, and it was also those three players who wound up being the three finalists. During three-handed play, Mildred53 proposed a deal, but adsonvonmelk quickly refused. As seems to happen a disproportionate amount of the time, the first to refuse is the first to go, and adsonvonmelk was sent railward in third place ($13,637). The final two players then decided that, considering their fairly even stacks, an even chop of $25,000 apiece made sense, with $3,609 left on the table for the eventual winner (PokerStars requires that some money is left for the winner).
Mildred53 then began to break away from her opponent. In a particularly big hand, tiffaniejoy revealed a full house, but Mildred53 rivered a straight flush to take down the huge pot. With such titanic hands clashing, it was almost humorous when a pair of deuces was enough for Mildred53 to scoop the final pot of the event, eliminating the final player to earn the extra money. Mildred53 pocketed a total of $28,609 to go along with the WCOOP winner’s bracelet for the event.
