Jun Obara has nearly $5.3 million in career poker tournament earnings to his name, with nearly $3.7 million coming in 2025 alone. In fact, because Obara didn’t record a live score until the final days of May, his incredible run this year has been put together in just 106 days. In that span, he has cashed 23 times, with eight POY-qualified final tables including a runner-up showing in the massive $10,000,000 guaranteed $10,000 Wynn Summer Classic main event for nearly $1.6 million.
The emerging tournament crusher from Japan’s latest score saw him defeat a field of 158 entries in the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Jeju $40,000 no-limit hold’em mystery bounty event, earning $699,000 from the main prize pool as well as 17.5 bounties. The bounty drawing will be held the day after the final table played out, so it remains to be seen just how much Obara will secure in bounty payouts. The number is set to be at least $700,000, as the minimum prize is set at $40,000. Depending on the luck of the draw, he could walk away with upwards of $2 million in bounties.
Obara’s recent spree on the live circuit has propelled him into second place on Japan’s all-time money list. He trails only Masashi Oya, who has more than $9.9 million in career cashes including the $447,000 he earned for a fourth-place finish in the $30,000 event at this ongoing Triton stop at Landing Casino Jeju.
In addition to locking up his first Triton trophy and the money, Obara was also awarded 1,008 Card Player Player of the Year points. With 5,579 total points, he now sits in ninth place in the 2025 POY standings presented by CoinPoker.
Surging Across The Finish Line
Obara knocked out every one of his opponents at the final table on his way to victory, after already compiling a hefty pile of bounties on the road to the final table. His unique half bounty came on the bounty bubble, which began with 25 percent of the field remaining (40 players). With 41 left, though, both Chen Hui and Sirzat Hissou were eliminated simultaneously, resulting in a split bounty to be shared between Obara and Aram Oganyan.
When the final table began, Obara sat in the lead with nearly 120 big blinds. Weiran Pu won a big pot early with jacks full of sixes besting the pocket aces for two pair held by Tobias Schwecht, leaving the German short in the process.

Four-time bracelet winner David Peters (7th – $118,000) was the first to fall, though, with A♠Q♣ losing a preflop showdown to Obara’ K♥3♣, which made trips by the river.
Schwecht then bowed out in sixth place ($162,400) thanks to a three-way all-in that also ended the tournament of Huu Nguyen. Schwecht got the last of his stack in with A♣9♦, while Nguyen held A♥K♥. Obara had pocket sixes and both of his opponents covered. The pocket pair held up and Obara added two more bounties to his pile. Nguyen earned $211,000 as the fifth-place finisher.
Oganyan then made his final stand with pocket sixes, only to run into pocket queens for Obara. The larger pair remained best and Oganyan, a World Poker Tour champion, was eliminated in fourth place ($265,000).
Obara Soon Dispenses With The Other Podium Finishers
When three-handed play began, Obara held more than 83 percent of the total chips in play. After a couple of double ups for the shorter stacks, Obara’s K♥J♣ beat out the Q♣3♣ of Pu to set up the heads-up showdown for the title. Pu earned $325,000 for his third-place showing. The bracelet winner from China now has nearly $3.2 million in lifetime earnings after this latest deep run.
With roughly a 7:1 chip advantage to start, Obara made quick work of his final opponent: Mehdi Chaoui. The Moroccan got the last of his stack in with A♥4♦ leading Obara’s Q♠9♥. The final board of the tournament came down Q♣10♦4♣9♠J♣ to give Obara queens up and the title.
Chaoui was awarded a career-best score of $473,000 as the runner-up.
