In recent weeks, ‘Giselle54’ has sustained some rough beatings at the CoinPoker high-stakes pot-limit Omaha tables. The still-anonymous player has been on the business end of multiple six-figure wins by Jared ‘Theblez’ Bleznick.However, Giselle54 put a dent in their recent losses on Aug. 31 with a $381,133 win.
Some of that money came courtesy of Bleznick, who finally saw his momentum slowed with a $188,400 loss. However, Giselle54 mixed it up with a variety of opponents, including some in the five-card PLO games.
This week’s first high-stakes poker review will examine two hands where Giselle54 played aggressively with a non-nut straight. These hands can often be tricky in PLO since they’ll run into the nuts much more frequently than in no-limit hold’em.
Giselle54 Punishes Overaggressive Bleznick
Giselle54 was on the button with exactly 100 big blinds at $500-$1,000 with a $200 ante. They potted and called a repot from Bleznick, bringing a 9♠6♣3♣ flop. Both players checked, and the turn was the 4♥. Bleznick checked again, and this time, Giselle54 bet $13,755. Bleznick potted to $59,605. Giselle54 shoved for $90,800.
Bleznick called holding J♣J♥8♥7♠ for jacks and a straight draw. However, he was in bad shape against K♣J♦5♠2♣, Giselle54 having turned a straight.
The players ran it twice. neither the 3♥ nor the 2♠ helped Bleznick, sending a $200,000 pot to Giselle54.

Hand Analysis
Bleznick three-bets preflop with strong single-suited jacks, and he gets a flop that’s interesting because it generally isn’t that favorable for the three-bettor’s range. However, Bleznick has shown in the past that he’s willing to three-bet many more hands that connect with this board than the solver would. So, he can probably be more aggressive here than most players.
He checks, and based on his turn play, Bleznick was probably going to try to check-raise and get the money in. That should generally be fine with an overpair and a nut open-ended straight draw in a three-bet pot.
Giselle54 has a decent hand to start bluffing with on the flop due to the presence of the K♣ in their hand. That gives them a chance to bluff turns and rivers that bring a club and also blocks some of Bleznick’s stronger holdings.
However, they went for a check, and the turn delivered for them with a six-high straight. Against another check, it’s time for Giselle54 to start building the pot with their straight, but they face a big — and committing — check-raise from Bleznick.
With no backup and tighter ranges, such as playing in a ring game, players can consider some tight folds in this spot. The second-nut straight is dangerous because it has no equity when it runs into the nuts.
Playing heads-up PLO against someone as aggressive as Bleznick, that isn’t a realistic option. Giselle54 has to get it in and hope for the best. Luckily for them, they caught Bleznick being out of line with a mediocre hand and draw.
Bleznick’s shove doesn’t seem great, because it’s only going to serve to drive out bluffs while isolating the strongest hands in Giselle54’s range, almost all of which are going to smash J-J with a straight draw. He winds up getting it in with just 17.% equity according to the Card Player odds calculator.
Giselle54 Fades LUKAKU’s Massive Draw
Bleznick wasn’t the only opponent Giselle54 faced. They also battled ‘LUKAKU’ at identical $500-$1,000 stakes with $200 ante. Giselle54 had the effective stack with 96 blinds to start this hand.
Giselle54 potted and LUKAKU repotted Giselle54 called to make the pot $18,400.
Both players checked the J♠8♥5♥ flop, bringing a 10♣ turn. LUKAKU bet $11,921. Giselle54 potted to $54,103 and called off the remaining $33,064 when LUKAKU jammed.
Giselle54 had turned another straight with 9♥8♠7♣4♣. LUKAKU had a massive draw with A♥K♣Q♥Q♦. They ran it twice. Giselle54 held on the 10♠ river and the 2♠ river.

Hand Analysis
LUKAKU three-bets with a premium holding. Like Bleznick, they flop a big draw with an overpair, more than enough of a hand to get it in. Also like Bleznick, they check and wind up seeing a free turn out of position.
With a pair and a double gutter, Giselle54 has an easy check, as that hand doesn’t perform well against a check-raising range.
Both players improve on the turn, and LUKAKU has two nut straight blockers. That makes betting an attractive proposition, as this hand has enough equity to continue against any opposing action. They can start pressuring two pair and turn the hand into a bluff on the river sometimes.
Giselle54 winds up in much the same situation as the prior hand. They have a strong but not nutted hand that doesn’t have any meaningful equity against opposing Q-9 holdings. As in the prior hand, they decide it’s enough to raise and get it in.
Illustrating the power of the nut wrap plus nut flush draw, LUKAKU still has 45% equity according to the Card Player calculator. However, despite running it twice, they see the entire pot pushed to Giselle54, who finally booked a much-needed win after some tough sessions.
