Video game players have the opportunity to crush an infamous James Bond villain in a poker game.
In the new game HITMAN World of Assassination, players can take on the role of a secret agent themselves and face off against Le Chiffre to progress to the next level.
To take a seat at the table, players first must earn an invitation to the private high-stakes poker game held in a VIP room. The game features high-end graphics and takes players to a luxurious casino to get in on the poker action.
“If you can beat Le Chiffre then he will be financially destroyed,” the narrator informs players as some chit-chat plays out at the table.
Four-time World Poker Tour champion Darren Elias criticized the poker scenes between James Bond and Le Chiffre in Casino Royale as outlandish.
The action is a bit slower than what traditional online poker players might expect. On the other hand, players in the game discuss the action, creating interesting dynamics. However, game developers appear not to have strayed too far from the unlikely play found in Casino Royale.
Vlogger Shows Cooler In Video Game Poker Hand
Here’s a quick look at the poker action from the game that sees video game vlogger “TmarTn2” lose with a full house to four of a kind in the first hand dealt.
To add insult to injury, the game’s narrator told TmarTn2 that Le Chiffre poisoned him, causing the streamer to quickly leave the table. Casino Royale was released in 2006 at the height of the poker boom and saw Mads Mikkelsen star as Bond’s antagonist.
The Danish actor reprised his role for the video game as well. Hitman World of Assassination developer IO Interactive is also creating the next big James Bond game, 007 First Light. The appearance in Hitman offered a chance to promote that upcoming game – and give players a chance to beat Le Chiffre at the poker table. Watch the trailer for the game below.
Mikkelsen recently offered insight into the on-set poker games between cast members while filming Casino Royale. While Daniel Craig, who played the British superspy, may have shown some poker chops on screen, that wasn’t quite the case in real life.
“I got my first royal straight flush when we played in the hotel rooms,” Mikkelsen told PopVerse. “And I actually took everyone’s per diems [laughs]. The only one who didn’t know how to play was Daniel.”
