A quick final day of play at the World Series of Poker Circuit main event at Harrah’s Atlantic City saw Bohdan Slyvinskyi crowned as the champion on August 25. After fewer than four hours of play in New Jersey’s gambling capital, the Ukrainian poker player emerged victorious with $177,562 and his first gold ring. This was the largest score of his career, growing his lifetime poker tournament earnings to $850,000. That puts him in the top 25 on Ukraine’s all-time tournament money list.
The $1,700 buy-in no-limit hold’em poker tournament had two starting flights that saw a field of 635 runners take part. That set the total prize pool at $962,305 to top the $500,000 guarantee by over $462,000. The top 96 finishers all scored at least $3,481, and day 2 saw the top 84 return.
The final day started with just seven players, and action flew from there with Slyvinskyi well out in front when cards got into the air. Slyvinskyi kept on building that stack as he eliminated Dan McGinnis in seventh place, and then Andrew Kershaw in sixth.
Slyvinskyi made it three in a row as he took out poker pro Johnny Bromberg in fifth place. The Ukrainian continued the sun run by busting another pro, Michael Marder, in fourth place. Demetrius Campbell was able to score one knockout by sending Chang Feng Fan in third place to set up the final match for the title.
Slyvinskyi was up 2:1 in chips, but Campbell held on strong for two double ups to keep his hopes alive. The final hand saw his pocket eights square off against A♥7♥ for Slyvinskyi. The board came down J♦4♦2♥5♦3♣, giving Slyvinskyi a wheel on the river to lock up the pot and the title. Campbell secured $118,368 as the runner-up.
