Online Poker — OPOY Update, May 1, 2009

It’s been two weeks since the latest Online Player of the Year update due to the increased action at the WPT Championship. During that 14-day span, the rankings have changed considerably, although the leader remains the same — Shaun "tedsfishfry" Deeb.

Deeb has cashed four times since, adding a total of 332 points to his total, bringing it to 5,182. To put that number in perspective, it would have been good for 32nd place overall at the end of 2008 and we are only done with one-third of the year.

Second place still belongs to Steve "gboro780" Gross (pictured left), but he made significant progress toward catching Deeb with a win in the UltimateBet $200,000 guarantee for $45,000. Gross is now just 136 points away from the top spot.

Nick "GripDsNutz" Grippo came out of nowhere to take over third place thanks to a sick run where he final-tabled the $1K Monday, finished second in the Sunday Warmup, and won the $150 rebuy.

Moving up four spots was Nick "FU_15" Maimone (pictured right), who finished second in the $100 rebuy on PokerStars and then third in the $100 rebuy on Full Tilt.

Dropping two spots to number five was Chris "Moorman1" Moorman, who has yet to add to his total since final-tabling the SCOOP main event two weeks ago. The same goes for frtk who has been relatively quiet, as well.

Thayer "THAY3R" Rasmussen dropped one spot this week despite two OPOY-qualifying cashes. Aditya "Intervention" Agarwal had picked up no points during this stretch and fell back three spots to No. 8.

Mohsin "chicagocards1" Charania made two final tables in the last week and avoided dropping out of the top 10 altogether. In fact, Charania moved up one spot to No. 9.

Much like some of the others, Jonathan "shipitobv" Delong had a quiet two weeks and dropped four spots to 10th place in the standings.
