PokerStars — Sunday Million

The Sunday Million on PokerStars was down 117 entrants from last week, bringing 8,001 players to put up the $200 buy-in and creating a total prize pool of $1,600,200.

The tournament paid out close to 15 percent of the field, resulting in a cash for the top 1,170 players. Among the notables to make a deep run were Jason "JaspudUF" Lee (90th), Bjorn-Erik "Hikkespett" Glenne (43rd), Jeff "jpa_25" Anderson (36th), Kevin "J4d3dr4g0n" Andriamahefa (28th), and kesher79 (13th).

Jamie 'TheCronic420' RosenThe final table featured pros in Juan Maceiras "vietcong01" Barros (sixth), T.J. "WhatArunAA" Slifka (fifth), and Jamie "TheCronic420" Rosen (second, pictured right). This was the second time Barros made the Sunday Million final table, after winning it in July 2007.

When the final table got three-handed, the players asked to look at some chop numbers. Rosen was not happy with the offer, especially considering his sizeable lead on the other two players.

Play resumed, and Rosen quickly took out Brendan42 in third place. Rosen had more than a 2-1 chip lead on his opponent, but a bad beat quickly turned the tables. Rosen had Iceman1278 all in holding a dominating A Q against A 5, but a 5 on the flop gave Iceman1278 the lead.

On the final hand, Iceman1278 overbet a made full house on the river, and Rosen called all in holding second pair. Iceman1278 won the first-place prize of nearly $200,000.

  1. Iceman1278 — $196,024

UltimateBet — $200,000 Guarantee

Matt 'plattsburgh' VengrinFor the second week in a row, UltimateBet was down and forced to provide an overlay. This week’s field of 973 left the site responsible for $5,400 of the $200,000 prize pool.

The final 99 places were paid out to notables such as XRIVERISTAX (91st), Jonathan "THEROOKIEQQ9" Plens (88th), Cliff "JohnnyBax" Josephy (83rd), Tommy "Robot Piemel" Nguyen (66th), Steve "StevoL_" Leonard (63rd), Jon "PearlJammed" Turner (53rd), Shawn "Phat_Cat" Luman (40th), and UltimateBet pro and Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian (12th).

The final table featured Ibuki "bukithepro" Fukui (ninth), UB pro Matt "Plattsburgh" Vengrin (fifth, pictured above left) and Jason "TAKNAPOTIN" Somerville (second, pictured below right).

Jason 'TAKNAPOTIN' SomervilleOnce play reached the final table, the eliminations stalled. It took a while for the bustouts to come, and the mounting blinds and antes really had to force the action. It wasn’t until play reached five-handed that someone began to take over. Vengrin and Somerville got it all in preflop for a huge pot. Vengrin’s A-8 couldn’t catch up to Somerville’s pocket queens, and Somerville doubled up to the massive stack. Vengrin was taken out shortly afterwards when his Q-10 couldn’t beat A-10.

Somerville continued to build his stack, taking out CUNN1NGSTUNT in third and holding a 2-1 chip lead on Ostrichman. Both players battled back and forth for a bit until Ostrichman’s A-K held up against Somerville’s A-Q to swap both players on the leader board. Finally, Ostrichman’s dominated A-3 flopped a wheel to end Somerville’s tournament in second place. Ostrichman claimed the win for the second time in his career.

Here were the final table results:

  1. Ostrichman — $44,660
  2. Jason "TAKNAPOTIN" Somerville aka JCarver — $26,700
  3. CUNN1NGSTUNT — $18,100
