Since poker is now officially recognised as a sport, it is no surprise its supporters would champion for it to become an 
Olympic event.
Online gaming company, CircusCasino.com hopes to get the game recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), in order for it to be included as a demonstration sport in 2012, and then as a main event in 2016.
The campaign is one of a long list of wannabe Olympic events including women’s netball and cricket. Positive characteristics of the game, which may help it in its Olympic efforts, are it is cross-gender, has wide international appeal, and would be the first age and class neutral event.
CircusPoker.co.uk has given an opinion of what should be Britain’s squad. Included in the list are Jon Kalmar, Dave “Devilfish” Ulliott, Victoria Coren, Neil Channing, and Lucy Rokach.
Peter Nolan at CircusCasino.com said, “Poker’s appeal is global, it transcends gender and age and is the fastest-growing sport in the world — it’s ripe for Olympic recognition. This fantasy squad is our take on who would best represent Team GB if poker did ever get to Olympic level.”
