Online Player of the Year Update — Dec. 5, 2008

Just a Few Weeks Remain in OPOY Race

Phil CollinsThere are only four weeks left in the 2008 Card Player Online Player of the Year race, and it’s looking tougher and tougher each day to catch Alex "AJKHoosier1" Kamberis at the top of the leader board. Despite the large point differential between first and second, there was some shuffling among the rest of the top 10 players.

With two final tables in the last week, Brian "SNoOoWMAN" Hawkins jumped up one spot from fourth to third, pushing Daniel "djk123" Kelly behind him. Hawkins scored a fifth-place finish in the Full Tilt Poker $1K Monday for nearly $26,000 and then took third in the PokerStars Super Tuesday the next night for an additional $44,000.

Philip "USCphildo" Collins also made a vertical move by jumping two spots to No. 6 in the rankings. Because the heart of the top 10 is so close in points, it only took a small cash and a final table in the $100 rebuy to move him past Shaun "shaundeeb" Deeb and Mark "dipthrong" Herm.

The biggest movement of the week came from newcomer Peter "breeth" Turmezey. Turmezey added 1,440 points to his total by winning the PokerStars Sunday Million for almost $200,000. That victory alone was enough to squeeze him into the top 10, pushing out Nicholas "CapTinBisKuit" Blumenthal in the process.
