Fiachra Meere has won the PaddyPowerPoker.com Irish Winter Festival main event, the Irish Masters, beating out Chris Wood to take down the €150,000 first prize at the €1,500 buy-in event.
On the last hand of the evening Meere got it all in with A-6 versus Wood’s J-J; the flop was 8-7-2, the turn was a 9 and the river a 5 to give Fiachra a straight and the title.
Wood finished in second place and takes home €106,000. Interesting fact; both players qualified for the Irish Masters via freerolls – in Fiachra’s case, a live freeroll in Fitzpatricks in Limerick and in Chris Wood’s case, an online qualifer.
The final table payouts were:
1st Fiachra Meere — €150,000
2nd Chris Wood — €106,000
3rd John Rafferty — €68,500
4th David Poole — €57,000
5th Peter Murphy — €48,700
6th Jamie Zambuni — €40,500.
7th Andreas Schippani — €24,000
8th Warren Woodall — €17,180
The event attracted 423 players to the Citywest hotel in Dublin creating a prize pool of over €600,000. World Series of Poker bracelet winner Ciaran O’Leary is currently leader in the €500 side event with five players remaining.
