Young Russian poker whizz, Ivan Demidov has managed a marvellous feat. As he awaits his fate on the World Series Of Poker final table, which takes place next month, he has also been successful in making it to the top three in the World Series Of Poker Europe.
Demidov played valiantly until the early hours of this morning, but finally it was John Juanda who put an end to the Russian’s ambitions. Juanda raised the button to 105,000, and Demidov called. The flop came 8

3, and Juanda checked. Demidov bet 170,000, and Juanda called. The turn J
prompted a check from Juanda, and Demidov, taking the bate, bet 450,000. Juanda check-raised him all-in, and a committed Demidov made the call with Q 10. He had many outs including straight and flush possibilities, but Juanda had a pair of sneaky pocket aces. The river was a blank and Demidov’s day was done. He earned £344,850 and left John Juanda and Stanislav Alekhin to go heads up for the top place.
A few miles away in the Grosvenor Victoria Casino, another WSOP finalist has made it to Day 2 of the European Poker Tour main event. Peter Eastgate from Denmark was the only one out of four November niners to make it to the next stage of the event.
These young Europeans are making waves on the international scene and representing their countries remarkably on the worldwide poker circuit. The poker community is now extremely interested to see how they get on in upcoming events, not to mention a certain tournament on November 9, the highly acclaimed World Series Of Poker main event final table.
